The cash-strapped ANC received a R5 million donation from a mining company partly owned by billionaire Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, who has ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Manganese mining company United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK), the fourth largest producer of manganese ore in the country and with a balance sheet north of R2.5 billion, is listed among the companies that donated to the ANC between April and June this year, in the first ever Political Party Funding Report released by the Independent Electoral Commission on Thursday.
