High profile political figures were in the cross hairs of Cloete and Thomas Murray – a father and son team who worked on some of the country's most contentious insolvency cases – and were both gunned down in a brazen hit on Saturday afternoon.
The white Toyota Prado the Murrays were travelling in, was forced off the road on the N1 North just after the New Road off-ramp, and an unknown number of gunmen opened fire – riddling the vehicle with bullets, shattering the two driver's side door windows. Numerous shots were also fired through the windscreen.
Murray had purchased the vehicle after his beloved Land Cruiser was stolen last year.
