The City of Johannesburg's new leadership has seemingly moved quickly to stifle ongoing investigations into corruption, issuing instructions to municipal departments and entities which would see probes suspended.
But shortly after issuing the letter, signed by acting city manager Bryne Maduka, the City backtracked, saying there was a problem with the date of issue.
According to the letter circulated on Monday Maduka issued a blanket suspension of all major strategic decisions taken by the City since September 2022, while putting a pause on all board meetings of the City's 13 entities.
