The missing person scam

MISSING  PERSON SCAM

About 3 years ago I sent a letter to the Desperately Seeking article in the You magazine. I was looking for my sister whom I had last seen 31 years earlier. The letter was published immediately but I receive no replies.  One Saturday morning I received a reply from a person somewhere in Natal. This person claimed that they had my sister and I was to send money to them so they could release her.  I was told my brother was dead (He is still alive in Namibia.)  I had read an article earlier on the internet and found that the scam I was subjected to was identical to what others had experienced. I reminded the caller that I had their number and will be handing it over to the police. The line went dead immediately. The article I read stated that these criminals will demand money for food for themselves, money for food to feed their victim, money for food for the warrent officer who was in charge of the search operation.

Some weeks later a friend of my sister reported that he had seen the statement in the magazine but had no inkling as to where my sister was.  My telephone number had been included in my letter to the magazine. A few weeks later I received another telephone call and by miracles of miracles it was my sister.  This was again one of those co-incidents which have us wondering at.  She was sitting at a medical surgery waiting to see the doctor and to while away the time she opened the magazine only to see her own name.  She telephoned me immediately.  My brother is alive according to his wife and Facebook.
