Theistic evolutionists are one step from atheism.
Pope Francis in one of his pontifical sermons declared that the Theory of Evolution and the Big Bang Theory are real because God is not “a magician with a magic wand” as depicted in the Genesis creation account. (1)
Speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Pope made comments which experts said put an end to the “pseudo theories” of creationism and intelligent design. Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator – arguing instead that they “require it”.
“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said. He added: “He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment. “The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.
“Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”
The Catholic Church has long had a reputation for being anti-science – most famously when Galileo faced the inquisition and was forced to retract his “heretic” theory that the Earth revolved around the Sun.
Giovanni Bignami, a professor and president of Italy’s National Institute for Astrophysics, told the Italian news agency Adnkronos: “The pope’s statement is significant. We are the direct descendants from the Big Bang that created the universe. Evolution came from creation.”
As Gods official representative on earth and the leader of the Roman Catholic Church he speaks for over one billion Christians or one half of Christendom. Most liberal main line protestant Churches like Anglicans, Methodists, Lutherans and Calvinists (Liberal) also accept theistic evolution as, do most top Christian scientists - only Baptists, Pentecostals, and the nefarious charismatic prosperity word of faith sects reject the Theory of Evolution in favour of Young Earth Creationism.
Most of Christendom has turned its back on the Genesis demythologised creation myth of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the beguiling talking snake and introduction of original sin, death, evil and all that jazz – they accept the Theory of Evolution which explains that mankind evolved from a common ancestor with all other apes.
Herein lays the rub, denying a real Adam, a real fall, the introduction of Original Sin, Evil and Death would present an even greater problem for Catholicism and Protestantism. Jesus saves is based upon the idea that the Genesis account of Creation is real.
Since the Creation and the fall are mythological and not literal accounts there is no basis to assume there is original sin. The gospel of Jesus Christ is based upon original sin. The death of Jesus upon the cross is a sacrifice (propitiation) for that sin. Paul argues it, “As in Adam all have sinned and died so in Christ all are made alive.” Since there was no Adam, Eve, Eden, or Fall then there is no basis for a need of salvation and hence no basis for Christianity to even exist in our modern era.
Theistic Evolution is a denial of the Gospel. It was the physical death of Jesus that paid for the sin that led to Adam's physical death (and that which brought death into the world). Therefore those who embrace theistic evolution are embracing an untenable position which is contrary to the gospel.
Theistic evolution should not be entertained by anyone who professes Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ affirmed the existence of a literal Adam in this conversation here, Matt 19:3-5 ..“Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female…?" So, in Jesus's understanding Adam and Eve existed as real beings.
What kind of Christian will argue with Jesus Christ? It can only be one that that is one step away from atheism and all they have to now realise; is that any kind of God that would use billions of years of galactic and biological evolution to develop us, is not worthy of any kind of worship at all.
If God was trying to produce us through evolution, it would mean that he: prefers diversity and not heights of intelligence or self-awareness. He does not prioritise creatures that can know and praise Him as the only life form out of millions that does that, is us modern humans and extinct ancient humans.
He is also quite comfortable with endless horrible struggle, suffering, grief and pain. Death and lots of it means absolutely nothing to him. Over ninety five % of all species that once walked the earth have died out and gone extinct. Why did he allow that?
Scientific analysis of the genomes of modern humans and that of two ancient humans: Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis) and Denisovans (Denisova hominins) prove that they all mated with one another. Although not much is known about Denisovans, a great deal has recently become known culturally about Neanderthals, and there is overwhelming consensus that they were not intellectually inferior to our branch of the tree, and indeed in some instances produced tools that were superior to ours.
So, did these other species of humans have souls? And why did God allow these intellectual and cultural equivalents of us to die out? What did they do to deserve that, while we were rewarded with longevity? Will he in time allow or cause us to disappear as a species, while He shines his favour on… I don’t know…. dolphins? I’m interested in how Christians who accommodate human evolution rationalise these questions. Did he hate the Neanderthals and Denisovans?
So he supernaturally kick-starts the Big Bang 14 billion years ago and abiogenesis/ biological evolution half a billion years ago and promptly goes AWOL - what kind of God is that? What is he really up to? Does he have plans for the future evolution of life that doesn't involve humanity, because after such a long time of neglect it is obvious he couldn't care less about us? Is he using us to later get whatever kind of life He really wants?
Maybe He is slow-breeding angels or cyborgs or maybe He is seeing if He can eventually create another fellow God. You see how daft it is to believe in theistic evolution. You might as well dump Bible trinity God altogether and become an atheist and join a growing group of enlightened people.
After, Christianity with 2.1 Billion follower and Islam with 1.5 Billion, the third largest on the planet numbering 1.1Billon is the Secular/Non religious/Agnostic/Atheist grouping. Leaving ones superstitious faith behind for free thought, reason, and science is indeed something to celebrate! Atheism is the future; Christianity is doomed to history just like all other religious myths have gone.
Dependency on Christianity in today’s society is beyond anything needed to explain the world. Much of the world has been explained by science and the need for religion as an explanation has been extremely limited.
It seems that dependency on Christ has become more of an "emotional" dependency these days. People want to be told that there is a God who loves them no matter what, a God who has a place in heaven for them and has a plan for their life. In our harsh world people escape into a place of forgiveness and acceptance. That is understandable but it isn't reality.
To live and die for a lie cannot be good for you. A person's conscience is nothing more than the best knowledge the person has and we all have a duty to increase our knowledge to prevent acting on a mistaken or deluded conscience. It is now time to grow up and shed our childish ways.
All those living before Darwin and the Theory of Evolution had an excuse to believe in God - post Darwin what is your excuse?
