As we are about to celebrate Mandela Day on July 18, we should bear in mind helping hands are better than praying lips. Meaning, instead of just thinking and talking about what we should do on the day, we should take it to a practical level and actually do something that will make a difference in someone’s life.
Not forgetting the late Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years, so why don’t you take on 67 minutes of your time and do something valuable and recognisable in your community? There’s no way one can come up with an excuse that he had nothing to do while there are a lot of schools and orphanages that need help from people like us. Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better.
I concur with one of Mandela’s best quotes that says: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” This quote say it all. Mandela Day is an every day journey not for one day. So let’s work together to fight poverty, and promote peace and reconciliation in SA.
