Snapshot: In early December 2017, the abrupt resignation of Markus Jooste, the CEO of Stellenbosch-headquartered global furniture and household goods company Steinhoff, took the market by complete surprise.Within two days, the group's share price had plunged by 80%. Six months later, its shares were down 95%, cutting around R200 billion from the conglomerate's market capitalisation.

What we know: Three years after his resignation, Jooste is still being investigated by the Hawks and authorities in Germany.

What else: Jooste, who is understood to be spending some of his time at an R81 million property in the seaside town of Hermanus, has avoided public spotlight since his resignation.
