While work continues furiously to answer key questions over vaccine efficacy with the Omicron variant, early evidence suggests that while it still represents a threat, Omicron’s real-world impact may not be as bad as feared, writes Kyle Cowan.

South Africa, and the world, can potentially breathe a sigh of relief after a week of revelations over the real-world impact of the Omicron variant.

But this comes with a strong caveat - there are still some important unknowns and the SARS-Cov-2 virus that causes Covid-19 disease, is no less dangerous.
