The South African Communist Party's condemnation of the West, NATO, the EU and sanctions against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine is mistaken, false and misleading, writes Ebrahim Harvey. He breaks down why.

I could not let go of this most controversial and complex foreign relations matter, try as I did, only because I argue that how we respond to the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not only of the greatest importance in those terms, but for the future of South Africa.

Undoubtedly, it is the most important foreign relations matter in the post-apartheid era and because it is such an extremely complex matter involving multiple domestic and foreign factors, it poses the most significant difficulties and even apparent contradictions in any analysis.
