Twice this week, Liz Cheney, vice-chairperson of the 6 January select committee investigating the insurrection, raised the possibility that Trump's conduct could qualify as an effort to obstruct President Joe Biden's victory certification, writes John Matisonn.

While the American public may be praying for a calmer 2022 in Washington, the lines have already been drawn for one of the most conflictual non-presidential election years in history.

Rep. Liz Cheney, daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, and the foremost Republican establishment figure fighting to wrest control of the party back from former president Donald Trump, targeted Trump and any other Republicans suspected of breaking the law.
