Attempts to bring Trump to justice have thrown up strikingly similar problems to South Africa's efforts to bring former president Jacob Zuma to justice, writes John Matisonn.

Three days before pro-Trump rioters stormed Capitol Hill, leaving several dead and hundreds wounded last January, then president Donald Trump threatened to fire his top justice department officials in the oval office.

"Suppose I do this," Richard Donoghue, Trump's acting Deputy Attorney General, recalled Trump saying, "Suppose I replace him, Jeff Rosen, with him, Jeff Clark, what would you do?"
