A Cabinet shuffle is necessary and should be imminent, but President Cyril Ramaphosa will be aware that he can't alienate too many close and powerful allies, writes Melanie Verwoerd. 

Over the last few weeks, speculation has been rife about a Cabinet shuffle. 

Unlike president Jacob Zuma, who shuffled his Cabinet a whopping 11 times in nine years, President Cyril Ramaphosa has only made changes once – in August 2021 - so almost 18 months ago.
