The jobs summit was supposed to help alleviate the country's unemployment. Five years later, a look at the shortage of nurses in the country tells you we are in trouble, writes Mpumelelo Mkhabela.

One of the inventions of the South African government, alongside endless inter-ministerial task teams and inquiries, is the jobs summit. Whenever it is convened, it brings to the table key stakeholders in economic decision-making: the policymaker and regulator (government), worker representatives (unions) and wealth and job creators (business).
