The announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate (ID) will become a permanent body is arguably the single biggest development that has emerged from the judicial commission of inquiry thus far.
The announcement is part of the president's underwhelming response to the Zondo Commission, which will be tabled in Parliament, and which forms the basis of the ANC government's response to the findings and recommendations about institutionalised grand corruption perpetrated under the self-same ANC over the last decade and more.
