Qaanitah Hunter questions why President Cyril Ramaphosa is not holding regular engagements with the South African media, despite promises to do so, but is giving interviews to international media.

I have to admit upfront that I am a bit embarrassed about writing this. There is so much happening globally yet once again, I am here writing about why a democratically elected president needs to hold meaningful and regular engagements with the press. 

On 19 May, French media organisation France24 released an interview it had with President Cyril Ramaphosa during his recent trip to Paris. It was on the sidelines of an African summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
