The ANC is moving towards a peculiar unregulated open lobbying system, whereby provinces and structures have one thing in common: to see a representative in the party's top six structure, writes Ralph Mathekga

The nomination process for the forthcoming ANC elective conference is off to a rocky start, with provincial and regional structures pronouncing their preferred candidates before the branches could complete the process.

This has been a problem from the beginning, the party's electoral committee chairperson Kgalema Motlanthe is not pleased with this, calling it "undemocratic" and against party rules.
