Instead of centring its engagements around the country's citizenry and addressing the immediate challenges facing South Africa, opposing factions within the ANC mainly utilised the platform to test how much support they had through proxy topics, writes Juniour Khumalo.

The ANC's sixth national policy conference this past weekend saw the party focus more on internal issues as opposed to engaging robustly on its role in society.  

More telling was how dishonest various leaders were as they came out and gave a watered-down version of what transpired during discussions. Most of the policies adopted for consideration for the national elective conference were populist in nature or recycled versions of previously rejected policies.
