Clinical psychologist Professor Sathasivian Cooper speaks to James de Villiers about the myriad reasons South Africans are hesitant to get vaccinated, and why conspiracy theories get spread. 

Reports of vaccine hesitancy have grown in South Africa, raising concern that the country will be unable to vaccinate the majority of its adult population before the end of the year. 

Clinical psychologist Professor Sathasivian Cooper says a variety of reasons have given rise to vaccine hesitancy and conspiracy theories around vaccines such as fear of the unknown, and a lack of trust in the state.
