While vigilante justice is deplorable, addressing economic and social disparities is the first step toward averting it, writes Ropafadzo Maphosa.

By now, most of us would have heard or read about the recent incident of mob justice in Zandspruit.

It is difficult to regurgitate the horrific details of what can only be described as the cold-blooded murder of eight men accused of committing several crimes within the community. The reasons advanced for this vigilante incident are not novel; like many other episodes before it, this is a reflection of our deteriorating criminal justice system.
