The Democratic Alliance’s Mpho Phalatse is no longer the executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg, the second time in a few months that she has lost the mayorship. In her place is one Thapelo Ahmad, a gentleman most Johannesburg residents never factored into their political calculus when they initially voted.
I do not wish to get involved in the internal tussles between her party, ActionSA and others who made up the now collapsed coalition because whatever those circumstances, we now know that the coalition was always vulnerable. The same is true of the governing coalition in Ekurhuleni.
