The biggest political game in the land – the ANC vs the ANC  gets under way on Friday. Tinyiko Maluleke writes that the stakes have never been lower. Nor has the leadership bar.

Late in the afternoon of Sunday, 18 December 2022, the world will watch the FIFA World Cup final between France and Argentina at the elegant Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar. At that very time, South Africans will be watching the unfolding of the "finals" of one of the biggest political games in the land – the ANC vs the ANC. As it was half a decade ago, the games will take place at the National Recreation Centre, north of Soweto. The stakes have never been lower. Nor has the leadership bar. Did I say the biggest political games? I lied. Maybe once upon a time. Not anymore.
