Naspers Foundry invested R42 million (US$3 million) in Cape Town-founded, WhereIsMyTransport. WhereIsMyTransport is a mobility technology company that improves public transport access in high-growth market cities. It uses data and technology to map formal and informal public transport networks, making public commute more reliable, predictable, safe, inclusive and accessible for millions of people in highly populated megacities.

WhereIsMyTransport’s solution has broad alignment with Naspers investments in food delivery and e-commerce that rely on mobility solutions and focuses on cities in emerging markets. They have mapped the following cities in South Africa: Cape Town, Tshwane, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, East London, Ekurhuleni and George. Their datasets also power the MyCiti and Gautrain apps.

Evaluating access to the informal economy in African cities

The World Bank works across multiple areas of development, and WhereIsMyTransport is proud to have supported the institution with mobility data to inform project evaluations and help develop an improved understanding of how citizens move and access economic opportunities.
