We at African Bank are deeply saddened by the passing of our former non-executive chairman Ashley Mabogoane. As an organisation founded through the sheer audacity of black business pioneers, and their single-minded determination to make a lasting difference to our nation, we feel privileged to be able to call Ntate Mabogoane one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mabogoane family during this time of mourning.

In a career brimming with stellar achievements, Ashley Mabogoane served as a non-executive chairman on the African Bank board from 1999 to 2009. He was one of the founders of New Seasons Investment Holdings, where he served as executive chairman and a member of their board of directors. He also served as chairman of Tsogo Sun Holdings and Tsogo Investment Holdings. He provided astute leadership in the numerous directorships and positions he held throughout his career.

Ntate Mabogoane was a big-hearted man, generous with his expertise and knowledge, who sought to elevate others even as he rose through the ranks. He championed the ideals of Black Economic Empowerment and opened the doors of opportunity so that others could realise their aspirations. Despite his success, he remained humble and a gentleman of note.

South Africa, and the financial industry at large, has lost a true legend.

We thank you, Ashley Sefako Mabogoane, for forging new paths that will lead many others to prosperity. Yours was a life well lived.

Sincerely,

Thabo Dloti, chairman of African Bank
