Five years and R1bn later: Civil society unpicks Ramaphosa's plans after the Zondo Commission

While much has been made about the Zondo Commission's cost of approximately R1 billion, the state has already recovered much more from the state capturers' loot than it cost to run the commission, with R7.7 billion collected from recoveries and unpaid taxes.

The commission's critics have pointed to the commission's cost, and it is also a subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice after anonymous complaints were received two years ago.

Responding to President Cyril Ramaphosa's implementation plan on the commission, some opposition parties juxtaposed the R1 billion price tag with what they consider Ramaphosa's underwhelming response.
