It was another week in which the ANC continued its long tradition of trampling on Parliament's constitutional obligation to hold the executive to account. Flexing its majoritarian muscle, the governing party scuppered proposals for ad hoc committees to investigate Phala Phala and Eskom. This proves Chief Justice Raymond Zondo had a point when he said Parliament might not be able to stop another Gupta-style state capture, writes parliamentary reporter Jan Gerber.

Last year, after Chief Justice Raymond Zondo expressed his doubts about whether Parliament would be able to stop another Gupta-style state capture, the legislature's presiding officers reacted with "concern".
