While National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is in Russia to be addressed by alleged war criminal Vladimir Putin, the DA has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa not to invite the Russian president to South Africa for a BRICS summit later this year.

Last week, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant of arrest for Putin and the commissioner for children's rights in his office, Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova. It is alleged that they are guilty of the war crime of transporting children from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

The warrants followed an investigation by the ICC into alleged war crimes after Russia invaded its neighbouring sovereign state, Ukraine, about 13 months ago.
