Busisiwe Mkhwebane's claims that former spy boss Arthur Fraser and Ace Magashule would testify in her defence appear to have come to nothing – as the suspended Public Protector began her case against impeachment with the evidence of a professional "roadie".
Freddie Nyathela, the President of the SA Roadies Association, took the stand after the section 194 committee investigating Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office dismissed her efforts to force the removal of evidence leaders Nazreen Bawa and Ncumisa Mayosi, by an overwhelming majority.
Inquiry chairperson Qubudile Dyantyi, who is currently the subject of a court application by Mkhwebane aimed at forcing his recusal, stated there was "no case" for the evidence leaders' removal – after the majority of MPs made it clear that they regarded the racism and misconduct accusations levelled against the pair by the Public Protector as baseless.
