National Treasury approved R2.2 billion in relief funding for flood-ravaged provinces - but, of a whopping R5 billion in procurement orders, only R100 million has been paid to service providers.

On Friday, the Ad Hoc Joint Committee on Flood Disaster Relief and Recovery heard how billions in relief funding had been approved to affected provinces and municipalities.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana and officials from the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) briefed the joint committee on the progress made regarding relief funding for flood-ravaged KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.
