Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke's office is saddled with outstanding debt from the country's most broken municipalities.
At the end of February 2022, the local government sector remains the most significant contributor to the AGSA's debt book, owing R770 million or 61% of the total debt.
This is contained in the report of the Standing Committee on the Auditor-General (SCOAG) following its March oversight visit to the AG’s Pretoria offices.
