The State Security Agency is committed to ensuring "proper financial controls and transparency", but the spooks agency argues Parliament's secretive intelligence committee is best placed to watch over it.
According to Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele, Parliament should decide whether its finances should be scrutinised by the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) – a committee dedicated to probing financial irregularity at government departments and agencies.
Gungubele is the minister responsible for the SSA.
