In 2006, she was one of the youngest mayors in the country - at 26 years old - now Maropene Ramokgopa is on the brink of becoming a Member of Parliament (MP) and is likely to be one of the youngest members of Cabinet. 

As a close ally of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Ramokgopa is tipped to take up a strategic role in Cabinet when a shake-up to the executive is announced. 

Before that, she will be sworn in as honourable member Ramokgopa on Monday, when Parliament swears in four new ANC MPs, including the deputy president of the ANC, Paul Mashatile.
