Gauteng strongman Paul Mashatile looks poised to be sworn in as South Africa's deputy president.
There is an expectation that the 61-year-old politician should be introduced into the executive to take over as the country's deputy president after David Mabuza failed to make it onto the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) that was announced on Wednesday.
Four ministers also missed out on making the list. This means that President Cyril Ramaphosa might have to reconstitute his executive as Blade Nzimande, Naledi Pandor, Thulas Nxesi and Maite Nkoana-Mashabane were not voted back into the NEC, while Pravin Gordhan turned down his nomination.
