While emphasising that there was no crisis in the government, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula vowed that the party would be on guard to replace underperforming members as he reiterated that President Cyril Ramaphosa would have to make changes to his Cabinet.
Ramaphosa won a second term as ANC president at the party's national conference in December, beating his challenger, former minister Zweli Mkhize, by a wide margin.
Ramaphosa's grip on the party is also seen to be bolstered, with close allies serving alongside him in the ANC top seven.
