While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his country was not interested in competing for dominance in Africa because of fears over China or Russia, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor asserted that South Africa would not be backed into a corner by the western super power.

Blinken was on a diplomatic visit to South Africa as part of a tour to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
