Cape Town - Eight SABC journalists, dubbed the "SABC 8", have filed papers with the Constitutional Court to have the broadcaster’s charges against them declared unlawful.
The eight filed an urgent application on Friday against the SABC to declare its recent policies "unconstitutional, unlawful and invalid".
Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi was named as a second respondent.
The eight are: Busisiwe Ntuli, Krivani Pillay, Jacques Steenkamp, Lukhanyo Calata, Vuyo Mvoko, Thandeka Gqubule, Foeta Krige and Suna Venter.
The journalists also want the suspensions of staff members Gqubule, Krige and Venter to be reversed.
Icasa, Media Monitoring Africa, Save Our SABC coalition, Freedom of Expression Institute, the Helen Suzman Foundation and the South African National Editor’s Forum have also been named as respondents.
Respondents were given until Monday to oppose the application.
