AstraZeneca setback: Experts figuring out next step as health workers could wait longer for vaccine

It could be unlikely that healthcare workers are vaccinated before winter when a third wave is expected to hit South Africa, according to an expert, as government’s roll-out strategy suffered a huge blow with Sunday’s announcement that the roll-out of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which arrived earlier this month, would be put on hold.

Now, scientists must figure out what the next step will be in the vaccine roll-out and while “plans are afoot”, there is no clear way forward, according to experts.
