The National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate has taken over a massive criminal investigation into fraud, theft, and money laundering against the Secretary of Defence, Sonto Kudjoe.

News24 can reveal for the first time that the case, opened at the Lyttelton Police Station in Centurion last June, has now been transferred from the Hawks to the Investigative Directorate (ID).

Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale told News24 that: "A fraud and corruption case [CAS 177/06/2021] was opened at Lyttelton police station, and the docket was transferred to the Hawks for investigation. The docket is now with the Investigating Directorate since it was declared as ID investigation."
