Luther Lebelo, a former SARS executive who helped former Commissioner Tom Moyane oversee a targeted restructuring of the tax agency, and who is considered by many to have been his "hitman", has landed a top job at the Office of the Public Protector.

Lebelo was appointed chief of staff and director of communications, a dual role, effective 2 December 2021, following an interview which included Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane in November last year.
