Former Western Cape top cop Jeremy Vearey – fired over Facebook posts seen as tarnishing the image of national commissioner Khehla Sitole – is still in the fight to reclaim his job.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has taken up the cudgels in defence of Vearey and has referred a dispute to the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council (SSSBC).

The union has called into question procedural fairness of a fast-tracked disciplinary hearing, in which the veteran policeman was found guilty of misconduct and it was recommended that he be fired.
