The police's embattled Crime Intelligence (CI) division - roiled by a leadership vacuum after a wave of high-level suspensions last year and under a cloud of crisis - has another new leader.

News24 can reveal that Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Yolisa Mokgabudi was appointed as acting CI commander this week.

The police spook outfit - a critical part of the fight against crime - has been plagued by controversy and unsettled by a leadership revolving door.
