A MARCH was held on October 13 in Bhongweni Township in Kokstad, calling for the safety of children and teenagers and the end of child and teenage abuse. It was organised by the local church Christ Revelation Movement.
Sunday school teachers, Sunday school children and pastor Gugulethu Mbokazi were part of the rally and they held placards in protest against the abuse of children. When speaking to the Fever, Mbokazi said many children are abused by their relatives and parents.
She said other children are even sent to taverns to buy liquor, which is against the law.
“Because of abuse, children end up destroying their futures by drinking alcohol, smoking dagga and taking drugs. We want parents to give children love and protection to prepare them for the future.
“We are aiming to invite social workers to our church to provide therapy to children who have been abused sexually, emotionally and physically,” she said.
She added that the church is currently attending to a case of a teenage girl who was impregnated by a local pastor, and that is what led them to organise the rally. The church’s founder, Apostle Tshabsile Ngcobo, also supported the event.
