The Knights, the professional team of the Free State Cricket Union (FSCU), have secured a three-year deal with a technology entity.

The union unveiled the deal with Itec Free State at the end of July. The side will now be known as the Itec Knights.

“This is certainly a sponsor that will add value to the union, team and players,” said Johan van Heerden, chief executive officer of the FSCU.

The two entities envisage a partnership that will be beneficial to both, and hope it will bring a wealth of experience and business acumen. Itec has a strong footprint in the province, dating as far back as 1997. According to Gavin Meyer, managing director, the group has supported sports across the country, whether it be school or professional sports.

“Sponsoring the Knights seemed like the next logical step and a good fit for our brand,” he said.

Former Springbok Adriaan Strauss, director at Itec in Bloemfontein, confirmed the hope for mutual growth.

“Knowing all too well the power sport has in uniting communities and lifting spirits, our aim is to become actively involved and support the Knights in a number of ways – not only through the obvious financial investment, but also by investing our time and hopefully adding value by bringing our business and sporting experience to the table.”
