THE Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has appealed to farmers who have not received drought relief aid supplies to liaise with the department’s extension officers in their respective areas.
This followed MEC Oupa Khoabane donating more than 1 000 bags of protein-based pellets to 200 commercial and small farmers within the Mangaung Metro.
The handover of the supplements took place at the Glen College of Agriculture on 26 May, bringing much-needed relief to drought-stricken farmers.
The relief aid programme is aimed at supporting farmers in the face of the severe drought.
Zimasa Leputla, department spokesperson, said: “The farmers who have not yet received aid must liaise with the agricultural extension officers in their areas or approach the nearest offices of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the province.
“Through this initiative, farmers are assisted to mitigate the negative effects of the drought which has severely affected both commercial and small-holder farmers.”
