Primary schools in the Free State are called upon to enter their learners in a long-standing annual mathematics competition.
The Nestlé Nespray South African Mathematics Challenge is for learners in Gr. 4 to Gr. 7.
It is aimed at improving problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Its inception having been in 1977, this year will mark 44 years of the staging of the competition.
The event continues attracting the participation of schools from across the country.
Last year’s competition saw over 1 000 schools and approximately 90 000 learners participating.
Schools are encouraged to enter this exciting way of learning Mathematics in order to empower learners to become independent, creative and critical thinkers who are able to interpret, as well as critically analyse, everyday situations.
Reasons to register your school are the following:
- The Nestlé Nespray South African Mathematics Challenge is recognised as one of the best vehicles to promote the importance of mathematics at primary school level.
- The challenge is endorsed by the Department of Basic Education as a national competition.
- Participation can result in improving learners’ mathematical knowledge and understanding of problem-solving concepts.
To register learners for the competition, schools are required to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to request an entry form before the closing date.
Entries for this year’s competition will close on 5 March.
