The recently-formed coalition agreement between the IFP and Abantu Batho Congress (ABC) in Umvoti Municipality is on the verge of collapse.

The signs of divisions within the council started showing last week when the ABC and the ANC signed a motion of no confidence against Mayor Gabriel Malembe and his executive committee.

The Gazette established that talks of dissolving the new council started after ABC president Philani “PG” Mavundla switched alliances, resulting in his being elected by the ANC councillors as the deputy mayor of eThekwini Municipality last year. The former president Jacob Zuma backer saved the ANC from losing eThekwini to the DA.
