IN response to a call made by the SA President Cyril Ramaphosa in his address to the nation in March to all South Africans to show sympathy towards one another during Covid-19, the Mayor of uMsinga Local Municipality Buyiswa Ngcobo donated food parcels to rural communities of Ward 12 on Monday, July 6. The aim of the programme was to help the previously disadvantaged communities to feed their families during the trying times.
Ngcobo visited Ward 12 and handed over parcels to the needy residents. The donation was in line with the fight against the spread of Covid-19 and to raise public awareness about the spread of the virus.
More than 500 households in the area depend on social grants hence the rate of unemployment is high. Ngcobo said the food relief parcels will go a long way as many families are struggling to make ends meet during Covid-19.
