Struggle icons to be honoured in New Hanover

TALKS are at an advanced stage to honour the liberation struggle stalwart of the African National Congress (ANC) Harry Gwala. Gwala’s gravesite near New Hanover has been nominated to be a national heritage site in a bid to keep his legacy alive.

Although the official date for the unveiling at the graves has not been announced, uMshwathi Municipality and the Gwala family have partnered with the South African Heritage Resource Authority (Sahra) to ensure that Gwala gets the recognition he deserves.

Gwala was honoured with the Isithwalandwe Award (the top award given to those who have made remarkable contributions in the community) in 1992 for his immense contribution in the liberation struggle.
