A MAN (36) charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition appeared at the Greytown Magistrate’s court on August 17. The suspect was found in possession of AK 47 and ammunition and alcohol.
The police were following up on the information received from Field Security company after the officers spotted the suspect walking along Pietermaritzburg Road at 3am on August 17.
Station Commander for Greytown SAPS Colonel Nkosithule Mvundla said: “The police attended the scene with the back up from Field Security. He was charged with possession on unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was also charged under the Disaster Management Act of the lockdown because he was contravening the curfew under level 3. He was also charged for possession of alcohol under level 3.”
