South Africa has received its first vaccines against Covid-19, and all frontline healthcare workers will be prioritised for vaccination.
Although recommended, no one will be forced to be vaccinated.
Scientific evidence suggests that vaccination is the best defence against serious infections.
Vaccines do not give people the virus, but teach their immune systems to recognise and fight the infection.
Vaccines prevent morbidity and mortality, help to achieve herd immunity and prevent on- going transmission. All health protocols will remain in place to prevent further infections.– Department of Health
