Durban – KwaZulu-Natal police are on the hunt for a man who shot and killed an off-duty police officer from Isipingo, south of Durban.

Constable Sibongiseni Mnguni was killed on Sunday while he was sitting in his VW Polo at the intersection of Parsadh and Sayan roads. Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the officer was approached by the suspect, who then shot him in the head.

"He was rushed to hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot. A case of murder was opened at Isipingo police station for further investigation and no arrests have been made. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage," he said in a statement.
